Rinspeed describes it as housing an “armada” of 12,000 individually-controlled LEDs that can be used as an electronic message board or “visual dance floor.” God only knows why. The Etos’ drone even has its own dedicated landing pad the rear, but in true Rinspeed style, it’s no ordinary landing pad. Heads up: that little thing has an extremely high addiction and envy factor!” They say: “The little flyer is a lot of fun when it acts like a UFO, shooting a selfie of the ride in the Σtos on your local favourite route and streaming it live to friends.
Let’s get to that drone straight away, shall we? According to Rinspeed it’s been installed mainly for giggles. Its latest design is the Σtos, which is best described as a heavily-remixed BMW i8 that’s is not only able to drive itself, but is also followed around by its own drone. We can always rely on you to crank the batshit craziness levels up to 11. Recall that the original i8 is powered by a hybrid powertrain consisting of a gasoline engine, an electric motor and a six-speed automatic transmission.Rinspeed’s drone-toting, self-driving Etos concept takes bonkers to new extremes. There is no information yet on the Rinspeed Etos engine. The prototype also received 20-inch wheels, a keyless entry and engine start system, an automatic parking system, a telemetry transmission function, a wireless smartphone charging function, and a smart heating system capable of heating batteries. It is curious that the rear-view mirrors of the concept are digital, and the picture is displayed on them only when necessary.

The data obtained is analyzed by the E-Horizon system, which is able to notify the driver of a potentially dangerous situation. Swiss experts have also taught Etos to track the driver’s gaze. What will be displayed on them depends entirely on the wishes of the people in the car. The interior of the concept houses two 21.5-inch curved screens positioned directly in front of the driver and passenger. Such a multimedia system can be controlled both manually (using buttons or touchpads) and remotely (using voice commands or gestures). Rinspeed Ethos was equipped with an entertainment complex Harman Connect Car, which is able to notify the driver about possible routes, nearby attractions and act as a kind of advisor when choosing music and video clips. Driving the latter, the driver can compose a simple image or display a message. Interestingly, the company’s specialists used 12 thousand LEDs to decorate the drone’s runway located in the rear of the car body. Swiss concept Rinspeed Etos has also been outfitted with a drone that can be used to shoot a car while driving or to deliver purchases directly to the salon. The autopilot is assisted by an all-round view system with eight high-resolution cameras and a system of interaction with other cars. The presentation of the car will take place at the CES Consumer Electronics Show, which opens in January 2016 in Las Vegas.īased on the hybrid BMW i8, the prototype received an autopilot system, when activated, the steering wheel effectively folds inside the front panel. The Swiss firm Rinspeed has developed an unusual concept called the Etos.
